Romans 12:2 (KJV): “And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.” In today’s digital age, it’s easy to fall into the trap of creating copycat content. With social media algorithms favoring viral trends, the temptation to mimic what’s popular can be overwhelming. But what are the real benefits of this strategy, and what are we sacrificing in the process?
“Originality may seem simple or even boring, but it’s the cornerstone of trust and authenticity in your brand.”
The Appeal of Copycat Content
There’s no denying that copycat content can boost your visibility. Jumping on viral trends can get you likes, shares, and a temporary surge in followers. But here’s the critical question: does it lead to conversions?
Defining Conversion: What Does Success Look Like for You?
Before heading deeper, let’s clarify what we mean by conversions. Conversions can vary greatly depending on your business goals. Here are a few examples:
• Likes and Shares: If your primary goal is to increase your visibility and build brand awareness, likes and shares are valuable.
• Subscribers: For those looking to grow a community, getting more subscribers on platforms like YouTube or Instagram can be a key metric.
• Website Traffic: If you want to drive potential customers to your website, the number of click-throughs becomes crucial.
• Sales: Ultimately, for most businesses, the end goal is to convert interest into sales.
“Don’t chase viral trends; chase meaningful connections with your audience. That’s where true conversions lie.”
1 Peter 2:9 (KJV): “But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.”
The Currency of Conversion
Understanding the currency of conversion is vital. It’s not just about numbers but about what those numbers mean for your business. Copycat content can convert, but at what cost especially for the long term? Let’s break it down with an equation:
• YouTube Likes: High engagement but low conversion to sales if the content doesn’t directly relate to your product.
• YouTube Subscriptions: Better for long-term engagement but still may not translate directly to sales.
• Instagram Follows: Great for brand visibility but needs to be nurtured to convert to sales.
• Website Visits: More direct path to conversion, especially if your site is well-optimized for sales.
Originality: The Simple, Boring, but Effective Path
Original content might not always go viral, but it holds unique power. Originality doesn’t mean complicated; often, the simplest ideas resonate the most because they come from a place of authenticity.
• Informative and Unique: When you create content that is genuinely informative and unique, it builds trust with your audience.
• Your Own Concept: Developing your own concepts might seem less exciting than hopping on a trend, but it sets you apart. Over time, it establishes your authority and credibility.
“The currency of conversion isn’t likes or shares; it’s genuine engagement and loyalty that translate to real business growth.”
Embrace Your Own Voice
Don’t shy away from creating content that reflects your business’s unique values and voice. Authenticity fosters a deeper connection with your audience, leading to more meaningful engagement and, ultimately, conversions.
Three Tips:
1. Define Your Conversion Goals:
Clearly identify what conversion means for your business. Whether it’s likes, follows, subscribers, website visits, or sales, understanding your goal will guide your content strategy.
2. Create Authentic Content:
Focus on producing content that reflects your unique voice and values. Authenticity builds trust and fosters a deeper connection with your audience, which leads to meaningful engagement.
3. Track and Analyze:
Regularly track your conversion metrics and analyze what works best for your audience. Use this data to refine your strategy, ensuring that your efforts align with your business goals.
Remember you are the salt of the earth beloved, be confident in what God has placed within you and your capability. I am not saying to be a total outlier or isolated in your own content curation bubble, all I am saying is make sure you're creating with the right things in mind. Remember you do NOT own these platforms, but you do own your website and email list, you own the community you create.... OFFLINE.

This resonated with me because we have all been given individual talents (aka Spiritual gifts) but may think that it is not good enough.. But who gets to say that it isn't? Not the ONE who gave you the talent in the first place. Just gotta trust the process.
